| In many projects the cost of structural steel outweighs the cost of belt
conveyor components. For those making proposals or feasibility studies
these Programs help overcome delays frequent in obtaining a steel price
from outside sources.
AD_TRUSS
BRIEFLY
Program accessed from the desktop. User enters general parameters of
truss on FrmTruss.

After clicking APPLY user will click 2 - SELECT MEMBERS. FrmHowe or
FrmWarren will appear, example below.

By clicking specific MEMBER DESIGNATION in diagram and MEMBER SHAPE
CHOICE in list then clicking 3 - SIZE MEMBERS user can then enter shape
dimensions such as in FrmDimensionsAngle near bottom.
After clicking APPLY and COMPUTE on FrmHowe the display will reflect
that shown below.

INTERACTION results (yellow highlight) in excess of 1 indicate the
member selected has insufficient strength. Through an iterative
selection of stronger shapes the user will reduce the INTERACTION
result, for each member, to less than 1. Where the INTERACTION result is
dramatically less than 1 the user might consider members of less
strength.
In each case the user must consider how the FORCE in the member is
resisted by end welded or bolt connections. ( 3/16 inch fillet weld
typically resists 2,000 pounds per lineal inch. Example: A 12,000 pound
force would require a minimum of 6 inches of weld at the joints. Size
and shape of joined members must contemplate this.)
From the STEEL WEIGHT SIMPLE SPAN at line 6 and scrolling down for
STEEL WEIGHT CANTILEVER SPAN prices can be computed from fabricators
cost per unit weight.
This method draws on CHAPTER H, COMBINED STRESSES, Manual of Steel
Construction, Allowable Stress Design, Ninth Edition, Page 5-54
including ALLOWABLE LOADS ON COLUMNS SINGLE ANGLE STRUTS, Page 3-55.
Also See 3rd Edition LRFD, page 16.3-1.
Scrolling further down, for technical interest, are computed shape
properties. Developing shape properties from dimensions meets needs of
international users.
AE_BENT
BRIEFLY
Program accessed from desktop. User enters general parameters of bent
on FrmBent.

After clicking APPLY user clicks SELECT MEMBERS. FrmBentDisplay
appears.

By clicking specific MEMBER DESIGNATION in the diagram and clicking
MEMBER SHAPE CHOICE in list then clicking 3 - SIZE MEMBERS enables shape
dimension to be entered in form similar to FrmDimensionsChannel seen
near bottom of display.
After completing all members click APPLY and COMPUTE on
FrmBentDisplay and results will appear on the same form similar to
below.

Similar to AD_TRUSS,
INTERACTION results (back color yellow) in excess of 1 are too weak.
Through an iterative selection of stronger shapes the user must reduce
the INTERACTION result, for each member, to less than 1. Where the
INTERACTION result is dramatically less than 1 the user might consider
lighter weight members.
In each case the user must be aware of the FORCE in the member and
visualize how those FORCEs are to be resisted by end welded or bolt
connections.
From the STEEL WEIGHT at line 6 price can be computed using
fabricators unit cost basis.
